Happy Boonwurrung New Year

The 2026 to 2027 Boonwurrung Digital Seasonal Calendar is a year long educational, cultural and wellbeing resource for families, classrooms, schools, universities, workplaces, youth programs, community organisations and institutions.

Beginning in September 2026 and moving through August 2027, the calendar follows six Boonwurrung seasons and twelve months of Country, story, seasonal learning, reflection and wellbeing.

It is designed to be lived with and returned to throughout the year.

Rather than simply marking dates, the calendar invites people to notice what Country is doing, how the seasons are changing, what is happening in the environment, and how those changing conditions can shape the way we learn, work, rest, connect and care for one another.

Featuring The Rhythms of Country by Ngarra Kulin

This year’s edition proudly features The Rhythms of Country by Ngarra Kulin.

His work explores returning home, moving with Country, and creating work in which family, community, strength and story can be reflected back.

The artwork forms an important part of this edition and helps carry the feeling of movement, relationship and seasonal rhythm throughout the calendar.

The difference between each licence is not the content of the calendar.

The difference is how widely the resource can be used.

More than a calendar

The Boonwurrung Seasonal Calendar is designed as a practical resource for learning, reflection, planning, wellbeing and connection to Country.

It can be used throughout the year as:

  • an educational resource
  • a cultural learning resource
  • a classroom discussion tool
  • a family learning resource
  • a youth engagement resource
  • a wellbeing tool
  • a staff reflection resource
  • a seasonal planning tool
  • a place based learning resource
  • a shared organisational reference
  • a prompt for conversations about pace and capacity
  • an introduction to Seasonal Intelligence™

It is suitable for people of different ages and across many different settings.

A family might use it at home to notice the changing seasons.

A classroom might use it as a regular point of cultural and place based learning.

A youth service might use it as a wellbeing and reflection tool.

A staff team might use it to think about capacity, energy, pace and connection.

A school, university or organisation might use it as a shared seasonal reference across the year.

Who is it for?

The calendar has been designed to support use across a broad range of settings, including:

  • individuals
  • families
  • early learning services
  • kindergartens
  • primary schools
  • secondary schools
  • universities
  • tertiary education settings
  • youth programs
  • youth wellbeing services
  • community organisations
  • councils
  • government teams
  • workplaces
  • leadership teams
  • health and human service organisations
  • environmental organisations
  • cultural learning programs
  • place based learning programs

A wellbeing resource

This edition also explores the relationship between Country, seasonal rhythm and human wellbeing.

The calendar recognises that people do not always have the same energy, capacity or needs throughout the year.

Different seasons can invite different ways of being.

There are times for growth.

Times for movement.

Times for gathering.

Times for reflection.

Times for regulation.

Times for rest and restoration.

The calendar can support conversations around:

  • rest and recovery
  • emotional regulation
  • belonging
  • connection
  • changing capacity
  • sustainable pacing
  • relationships
  • youth wellbeing
  • staff wellbeing
  • learning readiness
  • seasonal transitions
  • reflection and repair

Rather than expecting people to move at the same pace all year, the calendar encourages us to notice changing conditions and respond with care.

Learning with Country

The calendar is grounded in the idea that Country is not simply a backdrop to learning.

Country carries rhythm, change, story and relationship.

Across the year, the calendar invites people to notice:

  • what is changing in the sky
  • what is happening in waterways
  • what plants are emerging
  • what animals are doing
  • how temperature and light are changing
  • how people might be feeling
  • when energy is rising
  • when slowing might be needed
  • when connection, play, reflection or rest may become more important

This creates a practical way of bringing Country into everyday learning, reflection and wellbeing.

Seasonal Intelligence™

The calendar is also a practical introduction to Seasonal Intelligence™.

Seasonal Intelligence™ explores the relationship between:

Country. Time. Place. Capacity. Wellbeing. Relationship.

It asks us to think differently about how learning, work, wellbeing and human capacity respond to changing conditions.

Rather than organising life only around fixed schedules and productivity, Seasonal Intelligence™ encourages us to notice what is happening around us and respond more thoughtfully to people, place and season.
